WHEN IS FATHERS DAY?

Fathers Day

Americans celebrate Father's Day on the third Sunday of June. This festival celebrates fathers and paternity in general, including paternal figures such as tutors and grandfathers. The occasion is marked by giving a gift to your father or spending time with him. It is a time reserved to value the role of a father in his life and to reflect on the paternal bond.

Fathers generally receive gifts in the areas of home renovation, electronics and outdoor tools. There is no formal way to celebrate Father's Day, but many children also do so by phone, a restaurant meal, or a family reunion to honor all fathers of an extended family. This day is busy for restaurants. In the United States, some wear a red rose to honor their father, but a white rose if he is dead.

Some churches organize Father's Day services or incorporate the theme of fatherhood into the Sunday Office. One of the first religious services of Father's Day was held in 1908 in Fairmont, West Virginia. Grace Golden Clayton, a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church in the south of Williams Memorial, had just lost her father in a mine accident that cost the lives of 250 fathers, leaving about 1,000 children without fathers. Clayton suggested holding a service in memory of these fathers. In some churches, the Father's Day service revolves around the idea of God as a father.

Holiday History

This holiday is the complement of Mother's Day, which takes place in May. Father's Day was established in the early twentieth century in America to match this celebration. Many people have considered vacations casually, but the main innovator was Sonora Dodd. Dodd organized the first major Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington, in 1910, in the center of Spokane's Yokan. Dodd's own father fought in the American Civil War and raised six children alone in Spokane. When Dodd listened to the Mother's Day sermon in her church, she envisioned the absence of her own mother, who died in childbirth for her sixth child, and her father's valiant efforts to raise the children himself, believing that he deserved holidays in honor of the fathers.

Several other celebrations took place in Spokane, but the tradition stopped when Dodd left for Chicago to go to school. Upon her return, she took a vacation promotion, but this time nationwide. His strategic efforts included working with groups of companies that could benefit from such vacations, such as men's clothing companies and tobacco companies. Many trades took advantage of Mother's Day. However, the party's commercial promotion made many believe that it was shallow, since even Dodd's Father's Day Council was founded by New York Associated Men's Wear retailers.
International celebrations

At the international level, Father's Day is often associated with the International Men's Day, which honors men who have no children. The celebrations of many countries do not differ from the traditions of the United States, except for the date. Unless the holiday is associated with the religious tradition, it is generally not recognized as a holiday.

In Australia, the YMCA Victoria presents the Local Community Father of the Year award in 32 municipalities. Germany has one of the most unique celebrations. It takes place on Ascension Day, forty days after Easter. Men's Day is celebrated at the same time in certain regions. It is a holiday where groups of men go for hikes in large trolleys containing alcohol and food, and then often consume drunkenness. However, many fathers have chosen to celebrate with their families. Some will take a day off to spend a long weekend of rest or vacation.
